Blog Post 2 - Cultural Marker

Hello Everyone
I'm from South Africa and as some of you know that is a diverse country for 22 years which is known as the 'Rainbow Nation'. South Africa has 11 official languages and various religions. Before democracy (1994), South Africa suffered through Apartheid (which some of you may know). Thus created the separation between Western culture and African culture.

As you know, the white government had demanding laws and customs among black people and providing new laws to make their (whites) lives easier. During these years, black people found it difficult to express their native culture. After democracy, laws changed as we had our first black president (Nelson Mandela). It was an enjoyable time for my forefathers as they had freedom and rights. After a few years, or the time I was born, 80% of people were adapted to the Western culture; leaving the 20% to African culture.

During the 2000's, people were concerned about their freedom and rights because the first ever black government was failing to provide. New political parties arose, therefore caused chaos in most parts of the country.

Most people has a misconception about the country as a whole, were they are afraid of travelling there, In South Africa, and as in most countries, there are obviously places were you wouldn't situate yourself. I feel that the politics in RSA plays a huge role in this situation. As politics reflects on how well the country is processing and developing.

Sorry for the history, I think it just helped to prove my point, (well I hope it did).

Thank you for reading, and hope you travel to RSA as it is a beautiful country minus its flaws.
