Blog Post 8 - The Pitch Reflection

In case you forgot, my presentation/pitch was a marketing idea to promote a product called "Dippin' Dots" to an aspiring fast food chain, with my peers Nadia and Reem.

From the top five appeals, we used 3/5 appeals which are bandwagon appeal, humour appeal, and rational or logical appeal.
  • Bandwagon Appeal - We talked about how visual elements will attract the audience (children) because children are merely persuaded by colour and fun elements. Using visual aids, would allow us to illustrate how the product is used and as well as the benefits. Presented in the video, we would use kids to show how enjoyable the product is, which will persuade the audience into buying the product. This will also have a connect or some sort of relationship between the consumer and the ad. This idea shows that our company is capable of forming ideas to make the audience believe that they are missing out on something great.
  • Rational or logical appeal -  This was illustrated in the pitch, whereby we provided reasons as to how the fast food chain can connect to the audience using different kinds of networks or media. For example, Disney channel. This is because kids usually interactive around this network, which obviously makes it a popular network. And it is widely known, which enables a wider range of the target audience. Reason was used to persuade the fast food chain to choose our marketing agency.
  • Humour - Humour was used to persuade the fast food chain company. This is because we aim to please and especially to have a proposal as to how to advertise a product that is aimed for children. This will show that we are a fun, fresh and creative marketing agency, who would be able to create methods and techniques to advertise a children' product. This will show that we are capable of drawing the attention of kids to buy the product.
From the 15 basic appeals, we focused on 'psychological needs', because this would enlighten the company that children have a need to feel special, loved and to fit in a group

Persuasive techniques used

  • Explicit claims - For the presentation, we used a triplet claim, "no mess, no harm and no, no yes!" This would ensure the company that we are able to present how the product could potentially be better than other products and also benefit the marketing agency.
  • Association - Within the presentation, my marketing company was able to show how the children would be interactive with the product and how enjoyable it would be for them. This will also show how they will conform in a group, that initially have the product. Therefore, this will enable or persuade the audience to buy the product.
  • Repetition - For our marketing proposal, we used a catchy slogan, "drip drop drip drippity drop". This phrase would be fixed into the consumer's head. This would also be implanted into the company's mind because this would be associated with the product and they may realize that the slogan will be embedded into the consumer's mind. The slogan shows that the marketing company had innovative and creative ideas that can psychologically persuade the audience

The influence of the audience and context
The target audience was aimed at the younger generation, because they are mostly amazed by colour and fun elements, as well as ice - cream. Knowing the target audience, allowed our marketing company to come up with specific appeals and persuasive techniques that would be more compelling to the younger generations. It made it easier to identify which appeals are needed.

If I had to do the presentation again, I would focus more on the structure which would sound more fluent and pleasing. Definitely add a bit more personality in the presentation. This would persuade the audience as to why our marketing pitch is the best. Try to find more persuasive techniques which are relevant to the text.
Adding these elements would make me feel more confident and better in explaining specific key terms.
